Marilyn Munroe would have to be one of the most famous movie stars that boasted an hour glass figure. To this day her photos are so popular – she was the epitome of how a curvy woman can dress well and be sexy at the same time.
In today’s society more and more women are carrying a fuller curvier figure and fashion trend has begun to cater for this curvier woman which is very encouraging.
Women with the hour glass figure can afford to show off their curves and not hide under loose clothing like baby doll outfits or blousy tops. Tailored and fitted clothing to show off the body’s curves with strapless and strappy tops and dresses, short jackets, peplums and pencil skirts all look great on this shape. Low cut V necklines, tight fitted T-shirts and blouses, high waisted pants and skirts are also great choices.

The Pear Shape Figure
The Pear Shaped woman has narrower shoulders and is smaller up top than their hips, thighs and legs. To achieve the best results they need to draw attention to their top by choosing detailed and colourful tops, with detailed necklines such as flounces or beading.
Jackets with shoulder pads and shorter length (up to the hips) will help balance the top and bottom. Jackets can be in a bright block colour with a printed top or cami and paired with a darker colours skirt or pants.
Thin belts to draw attention to the smaller waist are great as are tops nipped in at the waist and made from soft delicate materials. When bright and colourful tops are paired with more subdued and darker coloured pants and skirts, the look is very flattering and fashionable.
A-line or flared skirts and boot-legged pants is flattering for the pear shaped figure giving the appearance of slimmer thighs and hips.
Below are some ideas of what would suit a pear shaped woman. Visit my website http://onlinefashionforlargewomen.com for more fashion ideas.
The apple shaped woman generally has an ample bust, round tummy and narrower hips. This shape is probably one of the hardest shapes to dress.
Some of the main points to consider when shopping for this shape is to draw attention to your best assets – your cleavage and your lower legs.
Pants and Skirts look best if flat at the front and have wider bands. A- Line skirts look great and bold prints can hide a multitude of flaws. Jeans are best avoided for this shape, choosing instead the more flattering wide legged trousers. Team these with a tailored, single breasted 1 or 2 button jacket, and a V neckline or scooped neckline top and you have a great suit to wear.
Wrap around tops and dresses are a great choice for this body shape as it fits nicely around the bust line featuring your cleavage and the side ties take the attention away from the fuller waistline.

For that Go To dress this Sealed With A Kiss Maxi dress can be dressed up or down for any occasion.
Last night I attended an event that I hold dear to my heart – The Night of the Stars Ball. Not only does it feature Adelaide’s top Ballroom and Latin dancers, it includes an amazing floorshow from International champions, lots of social dancing and raises money for Childhood Cancer (a charity very dear to me).
This event is a very glamorous and glitzy event so I set about finding an appropriate dress to wear keeping in mind the tips learned regarding an Inverted Triangle shape body.
After some searching I came across this “little black dress” that I thought would be just perfect for the occasion yet good to wear at less formal events. The see through sweetheart neckline draws attention away from my thick middle section and the flowing skirt added volume around my narrower hip area. The waistline of the dress was slightly higher and I teamed it with a wide feature belt to give me the illusion of a narrower waist.
I completed the look with diamante drop earrings, strappy evening shoes and my hair swept up so as to not take away from the neckline detail. Here is a photo as promised.
So! What do you think? Did I choose well? I think I did. Not only did the dress feel very comfortable to wear, I felt good wearing it and had a great time at the ball.
